We met the 12 disciples today! I played Andrew and fittingly Blake (even with the haircut) was Jesus. We learned about how Jesus chose his team and taught them how to be Fishers of Men and how from that story we too are to go out and tell everyone we meet about Jesus and teach them about His love and how He came to save us to have everlasting life.
Alicia shared her testimony about feeling God calling her to be brave and share about Jesus with a young man she had met and told him she'd bring him back a Bible, and she was scared to actually take it back but knew that she had promised and what God wants us to do so she sucked it up and took him the Bible. Well unbeknownst to her, she was one of many God moments this young man had experienced and a few years go by and he actually called her up to let her know "Thank you for sharing with me, I'm now going to Bible College" He's now a minister and a missionary! Such a powerful story for even the adults to hear.
Captain Ketchup was very fun today, I with no previous rehearsal scared Karen and the kids just loved it! Had some very fun jokes today and used one Wayne gave us. My group went swimming today and we had such a wonderful time. Poor Simon and Harriet were practically drowned while playing Chicken with the kids. I was able to bond more with Mary and one of our kid's helpers and it was so nice to take that time to talk about life and Jesus with others.
Michelle "It’s been 4 days with the kids and I’m sad that tomorrow is our last day. They have done well this week with listening to the Bible stories and today a few more were able to memorize the memory verse for today. My group 1st & 2nd graders) got the most points today; which means the kids got to select a person to be gunged (slimed). Thankfully we have a teen helper that the kids selected so none of us adults had to do it!
We had another family open their home to us for dinner and a walk. The hospitality is just amazing here & I am going to miss it when we leave."
Brooke "Ali complimented me today and said that my presence made the kids calmer. She said they have never been like that before now. She said my calm demeanor is sensed and that is why they are doing so well. All 10 of my kids showed up today! I was so happy. I was hoping for the same tomorrow but I know of one that won't be. But if all 9 show up it would be the sweetest memory to have with them. I encourage them with positive remarks and they express excitement that I want all of them to know more about Jesus and other important people of the Bible."
Annette "It’s hard to believe there’s only one day of Holiday Club left for us. It has been a blessing sharing God’s love with these children in their lovely British accents. They melt my heart with the hugs and tugs. (Sorry no photos allowed of the children)."
Alicia "I overheard two boys tell another he needed to practice running and then the two ran off. I went to the boy who was clearly upset and he said he’s being teased and made fun of. I rubbed his back and said I’m so sorry ... maybe those boys don’t know how to be on a God’s team. ... I said why don’t you show them what it looks like to be on God’s team and he ran off toward the others. It looked like he had a good rest of the morning at the car races."
Blake "This week is whizzing by, and I can't believe it. We have had such a great week and it has been such a pleasure getting to know all these kids. Praying and playing with them has been such an experience to remember and keep always."
After Holiday Club we had lunch as a team and then after collecting Eowyn and our awesome drivers for the week we went to Chavenage House, Trenwith Manor from the BBC series Poldark, this house is actually still lived in by the family but they've opened it up to the public three days a week for a limited time. Our tour guide was the grandson of the "owner" but he has since been gifted the house which means he is now the Lord of the Manor!
We went to Richard and Elizabeth Woodland's house and have a lovely chicken curry, rice, mashed butternut squash, peas and a Strawberry Pavlova for pudding. I feel all these Pavlovas are a sign to me that I need to make one when I get home, lol. I'll make it and you can all come try it! We walked around their village, saw the church and Alicia moo'd at some cows, I got a video of it, lol.
