We had a Royal day at Holiday Club (HC), today. All the kids were told to dress up as any kind of royalty we were surrounded by many princesses, some of my favorite Disney ones too! And today was the day we talked about my favorite Queen in the Bible, Esther, I even got to play her in the drama!
Today was all about being Brave like Esther, and seeing that maybe you were put in just the right spot, and at just the right time to do something powerful for God's team. Mary, one of the blue leaders, stood up and told the kids how she felt God was calling her to take on more responsibilities at work and though scared decided to trust God and be brave like Esther and in her new position she is able to help more people than before! Also we heard a story about Barney, a Youth helper, who took his skill of cycling (gift from God) and raised over $2000 to help build a school in an Asia country (I can't remember the name), but he had to step up and ask to help let alone do alone riding 14 miles. You can really tell how much the personal stories reach the kids.
Captain Ketchup has been hiding in different spots each morning and today I was up hiding in the balcony and once the kids noticed me I was dressed as a Queen myself so I called myself Lady Catsup, which only the Americans understood lol.
After our separate group times we came back in for a quiz time to check and see how well the different groups remembered the Bible Story and the winning group got to choose a leader to get Gunged (slimed). My group, Blue, won! It was a scary moment for me, lol I have connected with a good handful of the kids in my group and to show me how much they love me they petitioned for me to be gunged but I wasn't the only one they chanted (luckily) so Simon, blue leader, met a gooey slimy end lol. Love the gunge tank , thinking of having someone build me one for VBS next year.
Annette " Day 3 lots of excitement and energy. I can't believe the week is half over! I am helping with the youngest children at HC, reception age (4-5), and with costume judging. They were all excited to get on with the crafts and games today. And lots of royalty in costume. One in particular I admired, was a young girl dressed as a royal waitress. Two young girls became very attached to me today and didn't want to leave my side today. What a great job I had giving these two a little more attention and love. And I'm amazed again how these youngest children learn a different memory verse each day. I pray they keep them close to their hearts and share them with their family as well."
Alicia "Today, little Lexi cane to me several times to ask questions and be in my space. I encouraged her and complimented her on her effort in the Holiday Club. Bella and Lilly also seem to spend extra time with me as we talk about God. I chose to work with a group of boys today when building race cars and they were very attentive and respectful, especially in learning my name and being strong for God talk during the construction of the cardboard car."
Michelle "I have been giving a little more attention to the shy kids, knowing that they need it from personal experience. Today, my 3rd day with the same group of kids, I noticed the shy kids are speaking up more to ask me for help.
The leaders in my group (1st & 2nd graders) seem to work well together and the kids benefit from this to learn more about God as we shift from one activity to the next.
I took a 4 mile hike/walk up a large hill to see the Tyndale monument that honors William Tyndale for translating the Bible into English as he believed everyone should be able to read God’s word in their own language.
We also got to see the prized Wotton Cedar trees that were planted for Queen Victoria’s jubilee; which was also on top of the hills we walked up."
Tonight we had the community BBQ at the playing fields for all the kids and parents of Holiday Club. Was such a great turnout and they planned well with having no leftovers!
Annette, Blake, Eowyn and I, went to visit Wayne Birch, a good friend we've known since Annette and I's first trip over in 2010. Unfortunately he has been rather poorly and unable to really go out so we feel so blessed to find him on good day so we could see him, hear his terrible but awesome jokes and let him meet our sweet baby girl.
