Day 5: Tom!!

Praise Jesus Tom has been able to join us today! He didn't get to be his normal super energetic self but was there and back to Co-Hosting and it was so wonderful to see.

Today we talked about Moses and how even he needed to take some advice and not try to do it all but to use the people in your life that God has put there to build a team to help you or else you'll just get worn out and that wouldn't be doing God or the people looking to you for help any good.

Tom gave the testimony today which really was rather fitting considering he's had to rely on a lot of people this past weekend alone from being sick. He is also the preacher at Wotton Baptist Church, and told the kids that he's a leader of the church here and someone people look to for help from the community as well but if he had to do it all he would be ill all the time from stress alone. It was a very good/moving testimony to remember that God has given us people in our lives who also wish to serve Him and we need bring them along side of us to spread out the work so we don't get burnt out and find ministry a burden.

Michelle "I have a younger set of kids (1st & 2nd graders). They watch a skit and then in their small group (9-12 Kids) time with me I go back over the story and ask them questions. They know the answers. The clearly listened to the skit and the information sunk in. They are truly learning God’s word and are getting an understanding at their young age. The memories and information we are giving them may lead them to become a Christian later on in their life and to get involved in their church to reach out to others to tell them the good news. I can see God working this week.

Alicia & I were trying to remember which way to go (right or left) to go to the post box so she could mail her postcards & a woman stopped to ask if we were lost. Then she directed us to the post box. In the states anyone would have just walked right by, ignoring us. The people here are so friendly.

My host gave me a key so I can come & go as I please if I want....I am a stranger that she opened up her home to and she trusts me with a key. It is amazing the faith the people of this church have and is an inspiration.

The people that we are staying with, feeding us, taking us to visit places, & we are working with at the church feel like family in the short amount of time we have been here. Everyone is so welcoming and is working along well together."

Annette "The sun was out, not a drizzly day. Nearly 125 children at HC again today, a few new faces excited to  play games and learn a new memory verse and song and even build cardboard cars and boats. And laugh at Captain Ketchup’s jokes."

Alicia "One of our boys was crying and I asked him what was wrong. He said "he didn't much enjoy yesterday and didn't want to go to big group " So I put my arm around him and said "God gives us a new day everyday. Maybe today would be a better day for you.Would you like to give it a chance?" He shook his head yes... Later in group, he gave me a double thumbs up with a smile."

Brooke "My hopes are that because all of my kids returned that part of it was because of their excitement meeting someone who wants them to learn as much as they can about God during holiday club, and then carry that on afterward."

Blake "We had a couple new faces in green group today. All of the kids seemed eager to do the day's activities which included making boats and bridges. We split into smaller groups for this and I helped my boys construct our spaghetti and marshmallow bridge. Ours turned out great (with my assistance) and their boat was sea-worthy. Over all it was another fun day and it was great to see the kids work together to create."

Today, I decided that Captain Ketchup needed to be more spy like with her entrance so I hid in plain sight on the stage, and when my music started I waited for a bit to add suspense and then jumped and rolled out from behind a blanket and was greet with smiles, shock and laughter (Yahtzee!). In the blue group we gained more kids! We split up into smaller groups and used cardboard boxes to create race cars to race tomorrow. My kids are just such a joy to be around, even when we ask them to do some silly things they just jump all in and are excited to be hearing/learning about God but also not shying away from being good teammates to each other.

After Holiday Club we took a trip to Berkeley Castle and experienced such a neat history while surrounded by a beautiful still lived in (in parts of it) castle.

At the end of the day we split up our group to go to some church members houses for dinner. Michelle, Blake and I went to Phil & Stephanie Green's house and we had such a marvelous time getting to know them better plus we were served Pork Chop Casserole w/apples, roasted potatoes, and green beans. Most importantly for pudding we had Summer Berry Pavlova, fresh strawberries, and Ice Cream...really need to walk a lot tomorrow to work that off. Check Michelle's facebook if you would like to see pics lol. I know Brooke, Alicia, and Annette went to Diana Baker's house for dinner but I don't know yet what they ate but I'm sure Alicia or Brooke has posted about on their page.
