Hiya!
Today is the day that all the hard work comes to fruition, and all your prayers have been with us to be prepared for 126 KIDS!! Right out the gate we got over 100 kids, PRAISE JESUS!!! The most kids were in the Green group with 43 kids, good thing we put 3 Americans in that one. We had a smashing first day with the lot.
Our theme is Guardians of Ancora, a town where we our taught that Jesus is the Light of the world and being children of God we too need to share that light with everyone we meet. There is a Lighthouse on the stage/in Ancora with a shotty light that can only be fixed with True Stories, like those of Jesus. We heard the story about Fishers of men today, along with a drama. Blake played Jesus, I'm sure you can guess as to why. Our verse for the week is "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind." Matthew 22:37, we say it as a rap though to make it stick with the kids.
Before the drama though, Captain Ketchup was introduced after being gone for 4 years. I am she and it was a character that was specifically written for the theme of my first year over here, and everyone really like the Captain so they just started writing me into each year. Then life got busy and I wanted to give other people a chance to come over so I took a longer break than intended, and since I was gone they didn't want another person to truly take my spot so they brought in a puppet dog named Sputnik to fill the spot. I was afraid no one would've remembered me but the blue group kids would have been yellow group kids when I was here last, so I almost cried when I came out in my cape and saw the wide eyes of a blue group boy who quickly turned to his friends with great excited whispers "it's Captain Ketchup". Anyways Sputnik and I got on quite well considering he replaced me, lol. We will be given jokes and prayers by the kids to share with all the kids as well as talk about the lighthouse needing to hear more stories for the light to come back to the city.
Bill and Jane shared their story on how God called them to be fishers of men, if you've never heard their story you must ask them it's a very cool one in how God works. Brief retelling, they use to be farmers and when they were in their mid-forties they told God that whatever they could do for Him they would do it, and just like God he answered by sending a missionary their way who asked them to come to Mexico and help put on a VBS, and for the next 26 years they took teams to Mexico for 2 weeks, building houses, putting on VBS, and anything that was needed. They've been to Thailand, Chile, and Laos, such an awesome life story, and it all started with "God whatever you want us to do will do"
We spent the rest of our afternoon in Lacock Abbey and Village (Lay-cock). It is where photography was invented by Henry Talbot, it's also where many movies and TV shows have been filmed, like Harry Potter 1, 2 & Half Blood Prince, Pride & Prejudice, Galavant, Downton Abbey, to name a few.
Dinner was the best Fish & Chips from the take-away in Wotton at Chris and Lucy's in the back garden. What do you call a girl between two goal posts?.................. Annette
