Holiday Club has officially began!!!!
Today was the day where the chaos and fun started :). Mine and Desmond's day started out at 8:45 at Blue Coat, the primary school (elementary school) in Wotton, where we set up all our games and crafts for our group of kids. Since we have the big kids we start at the church with the rest of the kids then head up to Blue Coat to have our time with them to do an Olympic game (today we did a 100m relay race), we played balloon volleyball, and sadly cause we ran out of time today no crafts were done, but Joel (group leader) gave a smashing message about Jesus calling His disciples. He was brilliant and the kids are amazing. We had 22 kids in the Blue group!!
Sorry, backtracking now.... Holiday Club for the rest of the volunteers started at 930. We met at the church so we could all meet in the hall and pray ahead time for safety, open hearts, and the children and us adults would have fun and be touched by Jesus this week. Right at 945, kids started piling in, 30 kids in Green, 28 in Red, and I believe 29 in Yellow. If you don't have your calculators at the ready, that's 109 kids, Praise Jesus!!!!
On the first day its pure madness cause we take up a lot of time just getting the kids registered, into their respective groups, and explaining things to them on how the week will run so like I said in the first group we didn't get all of our small group stuff done. However in all together time, Tom and Karen (minister and HC organizer) were/are amazing, the kids just love them and they get them all excited. I'm back as Capt Ketchup again this year, my dance (we Americans know it as the Carlton dance) is a favorite for everyone still, and this time around I tell fun facts about sports that have to do with the Olympics and tell really corny jokes but that's normal.
We also do a drama every year, Becka, Desmond, and myself have parts to play, which coincidentally is what the week is about, Working as a team, each having our parts to play to get the job done for God (my paraphrase). The drama is set at a gym, I'm Monica the manager and quite batty, Becka is Paula the pool so she's the lifeguard and takes care of the pool, Desmond plays Freddy one of two sports coaches (the other is Teddy). Its so much fun to play off each other especially when we've got fantastic players here who help us get on with the show.
We went off touring after Holiday Club, Karen and myself went to Tyntesfield Manor, a very beautiful Victorian house, massive property, and two giant gardens. The thing with this house though, is that it had 4 generations of one family in it. So each head of the family left their mark on it in different ways. As you walk up to the house you're in awe of its size and beautiful roof (just remodeled). As you go through the different rooms you see where parts were left in its original Victorian state and others, like the first study I came upon, had a Rolling Stone magazine with John Lennon on it, and a TV hidden behind a door (no worries I got pics). The National Trust, the charity that owns the manor now, also instead of putting "don't sit here" signs they just put down a teasel cone, as if to say "this chair is just a tease, sorry no sitting" (sorry for the pun). Also mom, I know you're reading this, when I get back we're building a rose garden, we might have to get rid of the pool.....
The rest of the group went to Berkley Castle (pronounced Barclay)
The original 4, Karen, Angie, Annette, and I (plus Desmond), were united again with Diana Baker. We met her 2 years ago when we ate at her house, we ate pork chops and veggies and then introduced to a piece of heaven when she served us Summer Pudding, (a bread pudding with fruit). So last Sunday at church I mentioned the pudding, and how much we loved it and still talk about it. We had a lovely time reconnecting with her this year, we ate pasta and a red sausage sauce...... Pudding, I'm sure you can guess... yes that's right heaven again this time she used blackberries, currants and strawberries mmmmmm
Fun Facts: Desmond's character can't swim.....
They have a Slime Machine (gunge machine) here again and they're determined to gunge an American this year.
Queen Elizabeth I, passed a law that only royalty down to barons and viscounts could wear purple.
God Bless,
Scarlett
p.s. Freddy and Teddy (drama characters) are twins or at least brothers played by Desmond (tall black American) and Sam (vertically challenged Brit)
