Day 3: Buttie anyone?

Hello from Wotton!!!

We went to church, (Wotton Bapist Church) this morning at 10:15 for "hellos and hugs" service started at 1030, beautiful music for worship time. Tom Wharin, minister, had Jelly Bellys and awarded them to anyone who could remember the memory verse from 2 yrs ago, John 3:16, Grace got it. Then asked if anyone could remember last years, Romans 9:10, and I was the winner for that one, unfortunately though I picked a cinnamon one out and it was hot. I also didn't volunteer people around me were pointing so Tom called on Capt Ketchup, (That's me). Tom spoke on prayer and not just praying more, we all ask God to help us but we need to ask for reinforcements then put that strengh whether its spiritual or physical or brought by extra people God has sent us into action.

I found my way into children's church and was captured by the kids, well truly I was surrounded and asked questions by them. Val asked them if they remembered me (Capt Ketchup) and they could remember my other name (Scarlett) and Barney, Tom's son, proudly shouts out Ketchup Captain. First question for Capt Ketchup was "Where do you live?" Springfield, Il. Next question "Do you know the Simpsons?" yes I do but not personally...lol. It was awesome to be with the kids then we played Duck, Duck, Duck..Goose, I was picked so much I finally gave in and put myself in the pot for a rest.

Once service was over, we stacked up the chairs and got to clearing out the sanctuary and the back hall so we could set up for .... HOLIDAY CLUB!!!!! (and the crowd goes wild!). They've done some remodeling to the church since last year so stacking and hiding equipment went by faster and was a lot easier. Plus the place is looking smashing!

During set up if you stay to help, then you are offered Bacon Butties, which are bacon sandwiches with butter on the bun and you can add ketchup or bbq to your liking on it. It's well worth putting up chairs and helping to decorate for a buttie. We Americans and the others helping at Holiday Club each have specific age groups we're helping with.

Group Break Down:
Reception/Kindergarten/Red group: Becka, Sarah, and Karen

Yr 1 and Yr 2/Yellow group: Angie and Annette

Yr 3 and Yr 4/Green group:Donna

Yr 5 and Yr 6/Blue group: Desmond and Scarlett

We all helped decorate our areas of the sanctuary and back hall, cleaned, ate, blew up a lot of balloons, and discussed with our different leaders what we doing for tomorrow and special jobs we ourselves will be in charge of.

It was a very lovely afternoon, 2nd perfect sunny day they've had in months, so glad we could bring the sun with us now hopefully the rain if it hasn't already will come home with us. This place, this church, these people are just so wonderful and full of hugs and smiles that I just wish a picture could capture happy more than it does cause being here, loving them and them loving us just fills us up with so much joy and its only day 3 were gonna be bursting before the week really even starts.

Jesus is in this place and tomorrow we get to share him with all the kids of this village. Life just doesn't get any better than that.

Fun Facts: Tom wore a Captain Ketchup tshirt to church today, so he talked about God while wearing a picture of me flying acrossed a ketchup bottle.

It's just as exhausting watching work being done as doing the work yourself.

Things not to do while on a mission trip: share lodgings with your 20 some yr old daughter (annette and becka) because said daughter wakes up at 4 am cant fall back asleep so at 5 am jumps on your bed and says "Good morning its time to get up!" only to find out its 5 and you don't have to be up for another 4 hrs.

Tune in next time for more crazy awesome from England

Bless you

Scarlett

p.s. pants mean underwear here so the next time you ask someone to pull your pants up because your hands are full, maybe say trousers so you don't get a wedgie
