Saturday:
"I really believe I shall always be talking of Bath, when I am at home again–I do like it so very much…. Oh! Who can ever be tired of Bath?" Jane Austen, Northhanger Abbey
I woke up very early so we could get an early start headed to Bath, to spend the afternoon there to take in the splendors of the city, the Roman Baths, The Jane Austen Museum*, the fashion museum and many other things to see, plus excellent shopping opportunities.
David King was picking me up at 9 am sharp, and just as I was walking down the stairs to nick the batteries from the computer mouse, I saw David through the window on the door and just caught him before he rang the very loud doorbell. When he says 9am he really means 8:59am, lol. David drove Suzy and I to Bath we were the first of the crew to make it to the Bath car park, where you park you car and then take a double decker bus into town because that's the most sensible thing to do instead of suffering to find a parking spot in town. Once everyone showed up we walked to the bus stop and awaited the awesome to begin.
We boarded the bus and quickly headed up to the top to sit at the front which gives you the best views as well as the most interesting view of others cars. Sitting at the very front gives you the impression that you've just crushed something every time you pass it, its unnerving at first but then rather enjoyable just like when you put someone head between your thumb and forefinger when they're at a distance to make it look like you could crush them at any moment. Anyways we got off at Milsom street, where we split up into 3 different tourist groups, did a chant, then broke with a go team (not really to the last two but that would've been fun). The Davids, Liz, Suzy, and Debbie headed to the Roman Baths since this was their first time here. James, Annette, Angie, and Karen headed off to the fashion museum, to see the way its changed through the years as well as some period film costumes (sad I missed that part). I headed in the same direction for a block than split off on my own to the JANE AUSTEN MUSEUM!!!
I of course prepared for my trip by making sure to wear my "What Would Jane Do?" t-shirt, complete with my favorite Jane quote on the back "I do not want people to be very agreeable, as it saves me the trouble of liking them a great deal." The shirt went over very well with the workers there :). "We all saw your shirt, we love it and thanks so much for wearing it." My pleasure museum people, my pleasure. I went through the exhibits with great fervor, and after purchasing a Pride & Prejudice, comic book, I took my Jane map and took a walk in her steps before I headed to meet the group for lunch in front of the Abbey's court yard.
We had lunch at the Fish & Chips shop with James and the Davids. Then we split up again to explore the city on our own with plans to meet at the bus stop by 2:45. Angie, Karen, and I decide to follow my lead (nailbiting) through the city to find a bookstore, we found St Michael's Cathedral, and with 20 mins later we found the store, lol.
Once back at our cars we headed to Stonehenge.
