Monday: Day 1 of Holiday Club
Act 1: Scene 1
I awake on a beautiful sunny morning at about half past 8. I yawn do the princess bask in the sun then head off to the showers to get ready for a day of awesome. I make my tuna sandwich, grab my back pack and head to the church (4 min walk from the house). Just like at home I wasn't early, I wasn't late, I was right on time, not everything needs to change once you leave home :).
Holiday Club , is an English VBS (Vacation Bible School), because of the strict child laws here unlike at home they can and will turn kids away if there are not enough adult helpers per so many kids to put it on so I'm very happy to be here again to help get as many kids as possible to learn about Jesus and God's love this week. I am a part of the Green Seekers group so that's 3rd/4th grade, with Debbie Bilyeu from America as well, Vicki, Martin, and Femi are from Wotton, and we're led by Val who leads Sunday school for the kids at the church, she's awesome.
We were each given so many kids I have 5 in my group, Jack, Alex, Adele (yes she is a fan of the singer), Jasmine, and Kirstie. We chatted about where they're from, if it was their first time to Holiday Club or not and since the theme for the week is Mission Rescue: Moses story, everything is about being secret agents so we made disguises (fake beards and glasses). It was a quick day because registration can take a bit long but it was still fabulous we have a very well behaved group of kids.
Last year at Holiday Club I portrayed a super hero who read the news, Captain Ketchup (it was a fish & chips shop theme you see), I was there to help the kids Ketch-up with the weeks news, see what I did there ;) , I also read jokes to them that they wrote for me. Well I was a huge hit so they asked for Captain Ketchup to return and they would just write a part for me in. I'm also in the Drama this year as the bad guy, I'm agent Z, she's the mole in the operation and she gets an evil laugh (the reason I chose the part in the first place) anyways so I come to holiday club in one outfit, change into my Capt Ketchup gear, then quickly change into Agent Z, and then right back to plain Scarlett (not that I could actually be plain lol), yes this week has a little bit of identity crisis that comes with it. I love it!!
After Holiday Club the Americans have a sack lunch and chat about our morning and talk about how we see God in it and other lovely things. Yesterday Annette, Angie, Karen, and I went to Summer Meltdown (VBS for Jr Highers) to help with that and Liz, Suzy, and Debbie (first times to England) went on a trip to a few Castles. Meltdown, we created our own CD albums, rapped, played balloon volleyball, designed t-shirts, played cage ball (cage soccer), a form of cricket and basketball. At break time we shared a God story then went back to playing, that's the deal with the older kids, they get to come have fun for free but we will take about 15-20 mins to talk about how God loves them. God smiled on us Americans and we won the cricket/rounders game, if you don't know those terms I'll explain when I get home.
After that I walked home to get ready for dinner at Clive and Rachel Hamer's house. Three of their four kids was there, they all help at Holiday Club, Emily, Elliot, and Joel. They are the cutest family she's an amazing cook. We had Dijon mustard chicken and potatoes, followed by apple blackberry pie with custard of course. And always hours of entertainment with them.
Once I arrived home Chris had taped the Cricket highlights to quiz me on it because he taught me all about it Sunday. I passed the test and have become a really pro/fan. However I don't think I could explain to another American even if I had to lol.
God Bless you all thanks for reading
